Thimmamma Marrimanu, Andhra Pradesh, India
THIMMAMMA MARRIMANU, INDIA - 25th October 2019 - Statue of Nandi (Nandin) the gate-guardian / gatekeeper deity of an abode for Lord Shiva, Thimmamma Marrimanu banyan tree (the world’s largest single tree canopy), Andhra Pradesh, India.
It is common to find banyan trees in Indian Hindu temple courtyards, but the Thimmamma Marrimanu banyan tree is so large an entire temple sits at the centre of its canopy. A small shrine houses icons of Thimmamma and her husband. The main shrine facing the samadhi houses a black stone icon of Thimmamma. The temple samadhi is believed to be the exact spot where Thimmamma threw herself onto the funeral pyre.
