Menara Garden, Marrakesh, Morocco
Menara Gardens, Marrakesh, Morocco, 2015–10-21.
Located to the west of Marrakesh and stands as the gate way to the Atlas mountains, the Menara Garden is known as being the Agdals little sister.
Established by the Almohad dynasty, ‘Menara’ derives from the pavilion architecture with a small green tiled pyramid roof (menzeh), translating as ‘light house,’ reflecting a religious significance to the building.
The menara pavilion stands infront of a large water basin which irrigated the surrounding groves and orchards using a sophisticated network of underground water irrigation channels called a ‘qanat,’ using water from the High Atlas Mountains.
