Horse riders perform at the Kelaat M'Gouna Rose Festival Fantasia event
Horse riders from across Morocco perform at the 2016 Kelaat M’Gouna rose festival fantasia event, Kelaat M’Gouna, Dades and Tinghir Province of Southern Morocco, 2016-05-13.
Fantasia is a horse riding performance based tradition which displays the skilled horsemanship of riders from different regions of Morocco at cultural festivals (known as a ‘Moussem’ in Moroccan Darija) and important weddings.
A fantasia is referred to by locals as being “Lab el Baroud” (“the gunpowder play”) and involves the horse riders charging in a perfect line and firing one round using a musket rifle into air at exactly the same time so only one single shot is heard by the audience.
